Ride on the steam horse
No matter what your interests are, whether it’s walking, cycling, nature or trains, you will enjoy this ride through the Brohl Valley, a very changeable and eventful journey through one of the most beautiful side valleys of the Rhine. The train, pulled by steam and diesel locomotives, travels at the relaxed speed of 20 km per hour from Brohl on the Rhine to Engeln in the Eifel. The traveller will pass through interesting rock formations, first of slate and later volcanic tuff on this journey alongside the Brohl stream to Burgbrohl. The train travels over a viaduct, 120 metres long and 12 metres high followed by the only tunnel on the 18 km rail track. It is a fascinating experience when a packed train pulled by steam engine wheezes its way through the tunnel, 100 metres in length. At the same time, the “men in black” are only too willing to explain the old but reliable technology of the train and, in doing so, are preserving a bit of railway history. The workshop, to an extent historical, is also open for visitors at certain times and illustrates the world of the railway long before the times of the ICE and the Transrapid.
