Prison Tower in Unkel


The prison tower was built in 1553 as part of the Unkel fortifications. The baroque dome was added around 1700. The prison was situated in the cellar vaults. It is said that the young Ludwig van Beethoven once awoke to find himself here, after being a bit worse for drink! Pre-book to visit.

Templer Court, Bad Breisig


This was built by the Knights of Templer and the deeds date back to 1215. The Templer Court was destroyed during the 30-years-war, was re-built in 1657 and now houses a gourmet restaurant.

Hohe Haus, Bad Hönningen


This is the oldest house in the town. The building dates back to the 11th century but the present massive stone building dates back to 1438. Today it is a museum of local history.

Limes Tower, Rheinbrohl


This is a reconstructed watch tower of the upper Germanic “Limes”. It positions the beginning of the famous Roman wall which was the first Germanic borderline. The wall has been reconstructed using original Roman rubble found near the original location and is part of the Limes Information Centre "RömerWelt" which was opened in August 2008. It offers an interactive exhibition and Roman crafts outside.

Round Tower, Andernach


One of Germany's most imposing medieval fortified towers. 56 m tall, 5 m thick walls, built from 1440 to 1453. The French tried and failed to blow the tower up in 1689.
