If you leave the river, new and equally attractive natural landscapes open up to the visitor’s eye like hidden legends. Wild romantic paths take you through Pulsbach and Ruppertsklamm, passing fern and rock and leading to luscious green pastures. Good footwear and a good sense of balance are necessary when the paths become narrow and steep. The cool babbling cascades of water are always a pleasant companion, even when summer is at its hottest. The numerous narrow valley incisions of the Rhine are home to microcosm which in turn protects the many species of flora and fauna. You might even find remains of mining traditions or early castle bastions. You will need to be fit for the side valleys, as there is a lot to be discovered between Heaven and Earth. However you can let your imagination run free and picture caves full of dwarfs or glades full of dancing elves. In amongst this wilderness of green, it’s easy to understand why there are so many myths and legends surrounding the Rhine and its landscape.
