Bendorf-Sayn

For some it might appear to be like a small arcade. The district of Sayn, with its places of interest all in a row like pearls on a chain, lies somewhat remotely in a side valley. The town is dominated by the old Castle Sayn, and its neighbouring falconry, with the neo-Gothic Baronial palace (19th century) at its feet. This treasure of the Rhine Romanticism was destroyed during the Second World War. The castle was re-built and now has its former radiance with beautiful rooms, a museum for cast-iron art and a restaurant. The English Country Park, together with the Butterfly Park and its many exotic species, are magnets for many visitors. The Sayner Hütte (Sayner Hut) with its delicate slim iron construction is a wonderful example of past industrial architecture.  The much older and dormant Sayn Abbey serves as a counterpoint and is well worth a visit.
