Boppard/Bad Salzig
The town of Boppard, in the valley of the Loreley, is often fondly described as the “Nice of the Rhine”. With its many traditional hotels and historical buildings, Boppard is a must for visitors to the Rhine valley. Various small and large Rhine excursion ships start from here and, for the larger Rhine cruise ships travelling between Rotterdam and Basle, Boppard is a favourite place of anchor. If you take a stroll through the lanes you will probably find yourself looking at one of the many wine taverns where you can taste the local wine from Boppard’s vineyards (Bopparder Hamm). You will also pass the remains of the Roman fort. The Roman and mediaeval walls bear witness to the town’s rich and exciting past.
The district of Bad Salzig lies only a few kilometres upstream from Boppard. Bad Salzig stretches from the Rhine into a side valley and is the only Mineral Health resort in the valley of the Loreley. The gentle low-range mountain slopes invite the visitor to explore the region. You can experience all the wonders that nature has to offer by taking a bicycle trip along the romantic Rhine valley, taking a walk in the vineyards or wandering through Boppard’s forests.
