Kamp-Bornhofen
The pilgrim and climatic spa town of Kamp-Bornhofen can look back on 1000 years of history. Its location was determined by the monastery in Bornhofen and the two castles, Sterrenberg and Liebenstein or the “Hostile Brothers” as they are fondly called. This name goes back to a Rhine saga from the days of the crusaders. The Maria Pilgrim monastery is well worth a visit. The cloister church, first documented in the 13th century, harbours many beautiful art treasures from long gone times. About 200.000 pilgrims come every year to admire the many historical treasures, such as the painting of the Virgin Mary, the marble High Alter, the pulpit and much more. There have been ship processions to Kamp-Bornhofen since the Middle Ages, something not many pilgrim places in Germany have to offer. Another place well worth visiting is the Raft and Ship museum in the town centre. The view from the two castles high up on the hills is spectacular and the walk along the nature trail to Filsen with its wonderful fauna and flora no less impressive.
