Remagen
This lively town is probably best known for the “Bridge at Remagen” but it also looks back on a 2000 year-old history. The remains of a Roman wall and other archaeological finds portray its story. The 19th century brought steamships and trains to the area. From then on, tourism developed and profited from the visitors’ enthusiasm for the natural beauty and Rhine Romanticism. The “Rolandsbogen”, entwined with ivy and situated high above the Rhine, and the slender towers of the neo-Gothic Apollinaris Church, with its famous Nazareth paintings, are milestones of this period. The ornate railway station “Rolandseck”, which portraits the Cologne Bourgeoisie of the 19th century, is a special treasure of the town. Art and culture go hand in hand in Remagen. The Sculpture Trail and the ARP museum are highlights but the varied events calendar also proves Remagen to be a very culture-orientated town.
