Stolzenfels (Koblenz)

Although Stolzenfels is only a district of Koblenz, it has one very important treasure – Stolzenfels Palace, named after the town and shimmering a golden yellow in the setting sun. This palace reflects, like no other on the Middle Rhine, the feeling of the Rhine Romanticism. Its roots go back to the 13th century but the present palace with its battlements became famous after being re-built in 1836.The Prussian Crown Prince and later King Friedrich Wilhelm IV, no less, gave Koblenz the palace as a gift and the famous building constructor Karl Friedrich Schinkel re-built the palace in neo-Gothic style. It houses very precious furniture and reflects the home décor of the 19th century. The garden with its arcades is a beautiful spot. Stolzenfels Palace is one of the highlights of a visit to Koblenz.
