Weissenthurm
Nomen est omen – the white tower. The town of Weissenthurm was named after this white tower which can be seen from afar. The tower marked the borderline between the electoral districts of Cologne and Trier. Nowadays no-one speaks of borders. In this area you’ll find plenty of ideas for excursions, such as the Vordereifel, the Volcanic Park, Bürresheim Palace or Maria Laach as well as various beautiful destinations up and down the Rhine. Weissenthurm lies in the Neuwied Basin and offers bicycle tours right from its doorstep. The former towpath along the well-kept Rhine front is part of the bicycle route between Koblenz and Bonn. For walkers, there is the nearby Eifel. The Rhine-Kyll-Way will take walkers straight across, from east to west, along the river Nette, through Mayen, Nürburgring, Stadtkyll to Kronenburg near the Belgian border. The “Rheinhohenweg” on the left banks of the Rhine is another interesting walk and only a stones throw away.
