The Romantic Rhine lies right at the heart of Europe in Germany’s mild, western region.
There are three international airports nearby (Cologne-Bonn to the north, Frankfurt-Hahn to the west and Frankfurt Rhine-Main to the south), each within half and hour’s drive of the Middle Rhine Valley.
An excellent motorway network links the metropolitan areas of Rhine-Main and Rhine-Ruhr with the Middle Rhine. The Rhine Valley can be reached from all directions via the A61 (Cologne-Ludwigshafen), the A3 (Cologne-Frankfurt), and the A48 (Trier-Montabaur/Dernbach) which links the other two. The main traffic arteries in the Rhine Valley itself are the B9 road (left bank) and the B42 (right bank).
There are numerous railway stations on both banks of the river connecting the Romantic Rhine with regional centres such as Cologne/Bonn and Mainz/Wiesbaden. Koblenz is an IC (Inter-City) stop and an express bus service links Koblenz with the nearby town of Montabaur and its ICE (Inter-City-Express) station.
However you get here, have a safe journey!
