Alter Trinkwasserbrunnen
Engerser Straße 12, 56564 Neuwied
7.5 m deep well from the time of the village of Langendorf
Langendorf was a hamlet that developed as a street village on the flood-free ridge along today's Kirchstraße. After the Thirty Years' War, which had severely affected Langendorf, Count Friedrich III of Wied purchased the manor of Langendorf and established the predecessor of today's Neuwied Castle there. In 1649, the first residence for a count's official was built in the small place. During this time, the name Neuwied as a place designation likely emerged, replacing the old name Langendorf.
Later, it became part of a system of 16 wells for the supply of the baroque residence city of Neuwied.
In 2005, during construction work, a particularly well-preserved well with a depth of 7.50 meters was uncovered in the area of the settlement of Langendorf.
Initially, a glass plate adorned the well, allowing at least a view into the depth. However, after this glass plate was destroyed, the well is now sealed with a metal plate.
