impressive chimneys on the Pankert mountain
Three Chimneys
Three tall chimneys characterize the landscape on the Rhine Heights above Braubach. The impressive stacks are located on Mount Pankert and were built between 1897 and 1910. Additionally, there is a 600-meter-long above-ground flue gas channel that leads from the former lead and silver smelter in the valley to the chimneys. Braubach owes its economic rise to the extraction of lead and silver. The smelting operation was opened in 1769, but since 1977/78 only battery lead scrap from "Ecobat Resources Braubach GmbH" has been processed. The operation now functions as a secondary lead smelter with a compounding plant.
For visitors, the location of the chimneys on Pankert is not accessible, but the area can be viewed from the outside.
