Nestled in the romantic castle park of Sayn, the Butterfly Garden has delighted countless visitors for decades. In two bright glass halls, hundreds of freely flying butterflies from all over the world can be observed up close, fluttering between orchids, hibiscus, and banana plants. In addition to the variety of exotic butterflies, dwarf quails with their tiny chicks, turtles, tropical finches, and colorful Japanese koi also enliven the facility. Created by Princess Gabriela of Sayn-Wittgenstein, this special refuge combines an intensive nature experience with the aim of raising awareness for the beauty and vulnerability of butterflies – including our native species.
