Geheime Gärten Rolandswerth
Weingärtenstraße 2, 53424 Remagen-Rolandswerth
The over 100-year-old Hentzenpark on the banks of the Rhine was transformed into the art project "secret gardens rolandswerth" by Caroline Bittermann & Peter Duka in 2001 in anticipation of the 2000-year celebration of Remagen as part of the "Sculpture Shore Remagen." The artist couple started from the idea that landscape and nature are perceived as an image. The starting point for the redesign of the 19th-century garden complex are the writings of Novalis (1772–1801). The letters N-O-V-A-L-I-S can be found on the park benches. Bats and wild bees are welcomed in the plant tower made of concrete designed by Bittermann & Duka. In the old greenhouse, a documentation of the area’s history can be seen.
