Goethe-Anlage
Rheinstraße 56, 56564 Neuwied
The Goethe Park on the Rhine evolved from the former bleaching meadow into a recreational park. Playground, fountain, and pétanque court characterize the redesigned park, which was developed with citizen participation; the Creole Summer takes place there at the end of August.
The current Goethe-Anlage on the Rhine used to serve as the upper bleaching meadow of the city. After 1869, a swimming facility, boat houses, and a playground were established there. From 1904, the area became known as Wilhelmplatz, and since 1949 it has been called Goethe-Anlage. In 2009 / 2010, the facility was redesigned with significant public participation, resulting in a large playground, a fountain, and a petanque court. At the end of August, the three-day Creole Summer with free open-air concerts takes place on the grounds.
