Historische Baumallee Bassenheim
Karmelenbergerweg, 56220 Bassenehim
It offers a special experience: the two-kilometer path from the Bassenheimer railway viaduct to the Marienkapelle on Karmelenberg. While walking along the 1.1-kilometer tree avenue, the gaze is not only directed at the Stations of the Cross along the way but especially at the partly centuries-old trees that impress with their quirky shapes and their great age. Johann Lothar Walpot von Bassenheim (1615–1667), the builder of the chapel, had the avenue constructed more than 350 years ago. The chapel is now popular as a pilgrimage destination as well as a wedding chapel.
