 OTMAR ALT "Elephant" 1994 Corten steel, H:220 / W: 100cm

For Otmar Alt and his work, animals have a great significance. On the one hand, they are for him the unadulterated expression of natural forms of behavior (provided they are not disturbed, overbred or anthropomorphized) in which the various groups of animals live together. On the other hand, the animals in their bizarre forms, colorations or behaviors are also the starting point for many of his works, in which the human - all too human is expressed through animal/human representations and thereby achieves great conciseness. His favorite animal, however, is the elephant. This large yet sensitive animal, which can literally pull out trees and at the same time moves very carefully. The pachyderm with the sensitive skin. These two poles are expressed in the Corten object by the height of 2.20 m and the comparatively thin steel plate with a thickness of 6 .
