Johanniskirche, a Romanesque pillar basilica built around 1130
The Romanesque pillar basilica without a transept, featuring side aisle galleries and a six-story west tower, was built around the year 1130, making it the oldest gallery church on the Middle Rhine. Beneath the current church lie the foundations of a Carolingian predecessor church from before 850, and a second larger hall church stood at this site around the year 1000. Following destruction and devastation, the rebuilding took place in 1856/57. A gymnasium is attached.
