From the mammoth molar to the printing press – our museum invites you to marvel. The Museum of the City of Lahnstein spans three historic buildings in the city center, all within walking distance. The exhibitions are divided between the Hexenturm, Stadtmauerhäuschen, and the Old Town Hall.

The Witch Tower - Coats of arms, seals, and documents from Ober- and Niederlahnstein

The museum in the Witch Tower documents the rich history of the two formerly independent towns of Ober- and Niederlahnstein with coats of arms, seals, and documents. In the prehistory and early history section, there are fragments of mammoth tusks and molars, various stone axes and vessels from the Bronze and Iron Ages, as well as Celtic weapons and bronze rings from Lahnstein burial mounds. From Roman times, excellent terra sigillata vessels, as well as tools and implements, are on display.
The folklore section includes ceramic jugs and vessels from the 14th to the 19th century, kitchen utensils, and stove plates.
Craftsmanship is represented by a printing press with type and clichés, as well as a wrought-iron clock from the Electoral Palace of Martinsburg and a collection of locks and door fittings.
From the platform at a height of 26 meters, there is a magnificent view over the city of Lahnstein and the Rhineland landscape.

The Town Wall House - The Inn of the Night Watchmen

A branch of the museum is the Town Wall House at Hintermauergasse 19. The half-timbered building, built around 1700, once served as an inn for the night watchmen and later as a residence. Around 1900, a couple with eight children lived here. In 1975, the building was purchased by the city and renovated in 1981/82. It was then lovingly furnished by Lahnstein citizens as a residence in the style of the first half of the 20th century. Special events take place every May and October.

The Old Town Hall - Documents, photographs, and paintings from Lahnstein

Another branch is the museum room in the Old Town Hall at Hochstraße 34. In the large council chamber, documents pertaining to the recent history of the town, primarily from the 17th to the 20th century, are displayed. In addition to documents and certificates, numerous paintings and photographs present a multifaceted picture of our town and its inhabitants.
In the Old Town Hall, there is also the Lahnstein City Archives, which is open to all history enthusiasts and offers changing exhibitions on themes of Lahnstein's town history.
