Wasserturm
Braubacherstraße 9a, 56112 Lahnstein
At Braubacherstraße 9a is the water tower of the former freight station of Oberlahnstein. The tower was built in 1899 and is largely preserved in its original condition. The water tank on the tower supplied steam locomotives with water until the 1960s. The locomotives were usually equipped with a coal wagon that included a water tank. The water tower belongs to the design type "Intze." In this model, the iron boiler rests on a narrower tower. It was connected by a pipeline to the tapping points on the tracks. Using taps, the water from the tower was filled into the tanks of the locomotives. The tower tank was filled with water from the Rhine.
