The 320-kilometer-long Rheinsteig attracts nature lovers every year who want to experience vineyards, forests, castles, and the spectacular views along the Rhine. This year, the long-distance hiking trail is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Cities and communities between the endpoints Bonn and Wiesbaden are celebrating the birthday with events focused on nature, family, and fun. The cities of Linz and Unkel are joining the organizers and inviting everyone to their joint event '20 Years Rheinsteig – Two Hikes, One Goal' on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

Two guided hikes will start at 9 a.m. from different starting points and will convene for a joint conclusion at 3 p.m. in Linz's marketplace. At the Linz Street Food Festival, participants can then unwind and enjoy the day.

The tours are conducted in cooperation with members of the Eifel Association Linz, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. One hike starts at 9 a.m. at the barbecue hut "Im Gerhardswinkel" in Unkel. After a welcome and the distribution of goodie bags, the approximately twelve-kilometer-long hike, lasting about five to six hours, will take place together with the hiking leader from the Eifel Association along the Rheinsteig to Linz, with the aim of reaching the Linz marketplace.

The second hike also starts at 9 a.m. at the Linz marketplace. After a short welcome, equipped with a goodie bag, it goes along the Rheinsteig hiking trail "Linzer Basaltschleife." The roughly twelve-kilometer-long hike, lasting five to six hours, passes through Hof Ronig, the Leubsdorfer Valley, and through Dattenberg back to Linz.

For both hikes, weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear, and packed meals are recommended. Registration for both activities is required by October 9, stating the number of participants:
