Lecture by Dr. habil. Eduard Sebald (Hahnheim) porting, tumbling, walls, and digging - Local fortifications in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley Between Rüdesheim/Bingen and Koblenz, there used to be 30 city and town walls. Three of them alone originated from late antique castle walls! The wall of Oberwesel was started in the 13th century. The majority of the structures were built in the 14th century and later, including the wall of Lahnstein as one of the richest. The lecture examines chronology, typology, and the historical background using notable examples.
