The end of the war in 1945 in the Marksburg town of Braubach

Fierce and costly battles between Wehrmacht troops and the advancing 3rd US Army brought the town of Braubach some of its worst days in March 1945, when the Marksburg was on the verge of extensive destruction. The lecture traces the path to the drama of those days and its lasting consequences.

Klaus Dieter Schoch, a retired high school teacher living in Wesel in the Lower Rhine region, experienced the post-war period in his hometown of Braubach. Since the publication of his two-volume city history of Braubach in the 20th century in 2016, titled "Between Vine Hills and Great Politics," he has been intensively engaged with the events of the Third Reich and the Second World War in the Marksburg town and their consequences. Even 80 years after the end of the war, Klaus D. Schoch continues to discover unknown documents and aspects in his research, which he has published in numerous essays, and opens up perspectives that go beyond the local history of Braubach with relevance to the present.

The lecture series is moderated by Ulrich Linnemann from Bad Schwalbach and Klaus D. Schoch from Wesel.
It is under the patronage of the Mayor of Lahnstein, Mr. Lennart Siefert.

The lecture series will take place at the Sporkenburger Hof in Lahnstein.
Doors open with a Get Together at 6:45 PM; lecture begins at 7:30 PM.
