Fellows of the artist residency Schloss Balmoral 2024 on Aesthetics and Ambivalences of the Immersive

One can dive in many ways: into spaces of one’s own imagination, into virtual worlds or into real parallel societies. One can lose and find oneself in sounds, in literature, in series, and also in other people. Immersion is an experience that has always been familiar to us – and can be triggered by stimuli, narcotics, but also by actions, dances, and rituals. Artistic positions developed in the past year by international artists in the Artist Residency Schloss Balmoral in Bad Ems and by guests deal with the theme of immersion: diving in, sinking, transitioning. More than a classic exhibition, our festival weaves images, sounds, and shared experiences into a ten-day sequence that finds its center in the Sayner Hütte and radiates into the region.
