Führung Stadtmauerpfad Engers
Alte Schlossstraße 2, 56566 Neuwied
A new city tour invites interested citizens on July 25, 2025, to discover the traces of the medieval city wall of Engers. The "Insider Tour" highlights the eventful history of the city fortifications from 1357 - with stories of robbers, princes, ice floes, and wars.
The foundation was laid by Count William I of Wied, who received city and customs rights from Emperor Charles IV in 1357 and subsequently built the Count's Tower (today known as the Grey Tower). After a feud with Elector Kuno of Falkenstein, Engers passed to Kurtrier in 1371. The Elector had the castle "Kunostein" and a complete city wall with nine watchtowers built.
The "Kurwächter", a city soldier of the Elector, guides through the history of Engers. The tour starts at the Count's Tower and leads along the Rhine promenade and through the old town to the Customs Bridge.
Start: 5:00 PM
Meeting point: Beer garden Castle terrace Engers (approx. 1.4 km, duration approx. 70 minutes).
Participation is free - donations for the maintenance of the "City Wall Path 1371" are welcome.
The tour is led by Thomas Focke and Thomas Mehlbräuer. Please register at 0171/6256780 or info@ferienamrhein.de,
