Today it’s getting hot – we will cast like the foundry workers!
In the past, the foundry workers in the Sayner Hütte did exciting things: They formed models in sand and then poured liquid, glowing hot metal into these cavities. This resulted in amazing objects!
Today you will get to try it out: We will cast our own hut tokens and small figures – just like back then. Afterwards, we will work on your cast pieces a bit to make them really nice. This is called "cleaning".
And the best part:
You can of course take your finished cast piece home with you!

Sweet, colorful, and really cool!
Today it’s going to be delicious and creative!
In our foundry workshop, we will make colorful sugar casts – small art pieces made from liquid sugar. We will be inspired by real museum pieces: small figures, gears, or a fawn made of iron!
The exciting part:
Our colorful, translucent sugar casts look completely different from the dark, heavy iron art casts. A really beautiful contrast!
Of course, everyone gets to cast their own personal, sweet souvenir and take it home.
In between, we will go on a discovery tour through the Sayner Hütte and the art casting gallery - let's see if we can find the real models for our casts there!

WED | 15.10. | 9:00 - 13:00 | Culture Park Sayn | Discovering Sayn with Hut Boy Toni

Join us on an exciting journey into the past!
Have you ever wondered what a workday was like over 100 years ago – when there were no mobile phones, cars, or supermarkets?
Together we will follow the traces of 12-year-old Toni, who worked at the Sayner Hütte back then. Toni even left us something: his backpack – filled with many mysterious things and a letter!
With Toni’s help, we will embark on a discovery tour – from the Sayner Hütte to Hein’s Mill. Along the way, we will learn how Toni and his family lived in Alt-Sayn, what work was done at the foundry, and what the place used to look like.
Are you ready for a real adventure? Then come with Toni on a time travel!

Faces, plaster & ghosts – today it’s getting creative!
In the past, the foundry workers needed special models to create their cast pieces. And that’s exactly what we will do today – we will create our own model:
In the first part, we will cast our own faces and make cool plaster masks!
Do you dare to have your face cast in plaster? No worries – it only tickles a little and it’s really fun!
While the masks are drying, we’ll head to our jewelry and wire workshop:
Whether sparkling jewelry, colorful autumn decorations, or spooky wire ghosts – here you can bend, craft, and design to your heart's content. Your imagination knows no bounds!
In the end, you will, of course, take your mask and your artworks home with you.


The meeting point for all workshops is the visitor center of the Sayner Hütte.
