Thursday, 25.09.2025 Arrival day in Braubach
Your journey begins with your arrival in the beautiful town of Braubach with the fairytale Marksburg.
Friday, 26.09.2025 1st Stage Braubach to Kamp-Bornhofen (approx. 18 km)
The Rheinsteig takes you on a journey back to the Middle Ages. It leads directly to the Marksburg, the only hilltop castle on the Middle Rhine that has never been destroyed. Here, the Middle Ages come to life: dark dungeons, magnificent banquet halls, and powerful cannons tell of times gone by. Particularly impressive is the collection of knight armors, which powerfully reflects the history of the knights.
After the visit to Marksburg, the path continues to the well-known Rhine loop at Filsen. The Nature Trail Middle Rhine winds through the nature reserve Filsener Ley, a sunny refuge with rare plants and animals. Educational panels along the way provide exciting insights into the flora and fauna of the region. Finally, you reach Kamp-Bornhofen, a picturesque place with historical sights such as St. Nicholas Church and the Von der Leyen estate. The castles Liebenstein and Sterrenberg, also known as the "Hostile Brothers," tower high above the village and offer an impressive view of the Rhine Valley.
Saturday, 27.09.2025 2nd Stage Kamp-Bornhofen to Kestert (approx. 14 km)
The Rheinsteig presents itself today as a multifaceted hike: From the protected flora of the Filsener Ley, the path leads into the forest to the scenic Wilhelmshöhe. After adventurous paths and a steep descent, one reaches the formidable castles of the Hostile Brothers before crossing a large enclosure with Exmoor ponies to Lykershausen. Scenic views accompany the return to the ridge and until the turn-off to the day's destination Kestert.
Sunday, 28.09.2025 3rd Stage Kestert to St. Goarshausen (approx. 14 km)
On this stage, the Rheinsteig impressively shows why it is considered one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Germany. The path leads through the impressive Pulsbach gorge, where the Pulsbach plunges down in several waterfalls. The narrow path along the gorge requires sure-footedness and a head for heights but rewards you with breathtaking views and a touch of adventure until you finally arrive in the small fishing village of St. Goarshausen.
Monday, 29.09.2025 4th Stage St. Goarshausen to Kaub (approx. 20 km)
Today, the Rheinsteig challenges your stamina significantly, as the "king stage" involves numerous ascents and descents, rocky passages, and many kilometers to cover. As a reward, the World Heritage Valley presents itself in its most beautiful form, characterized by grand views, cozy valleys, rugged rocks, and of course, the Loreley plateau that shapes this breathtaking section. The stage leads over the Dreiburgenblick, from where one has an impressive view of Burg Katz, Burg Maus, and the ruins of Burg Rheinfels. The trail continues through the forest up to the Loreley plateau, one of the most famous viewpoints on the Rhine, offering a wide view over the valley. Along the way, scenic viewpoints and cozy spots invite you to linger. The route ends in Kaub, a picturesque place with historical landmarks.
