Klapperlauf Linz
Marktplatz 14, 53545 Linz am Rhein
It's clattering again through Linz
Click clack, click clack, that's how the mills clatter according to a German folk song by the babbling brook. For the "Colorful City on the Rhine," the clattering is a lovingly maintained tradition. Both have a common denominator - namely acoustic recognition. Citizens and guests will be "all ears" in Linz on the Rhine during the Holy Days of Easter due to the clattering.
On Good Friday and Holy Saturday (April 3 and 4), the Linz clatter runs will once again replace the ringing of the bells. According to tradition, the bells fly to Rome over the Easter holidays. Experience shows that over 200 boys and girls with clappers run in a line three times a day for the traditional time announcement through the "Colorful City on the Rhine".
With large clapper sticks, a wooden instrument where a wooden mallet is moved by swinging strongly to the left and right, young and old run through the old town of Linz. The tradition kicks off at the New Gate by the Clapper Boy Memorial, which reminds all visitors from near and far of the lovingly maintained Easter custom.
Anyone who would like to join in and does not yet have their own clapper can borrow one at the Linz Tourist Information from Monday, March 30 until Thursday, April 2 during regular opening hours (8:30 am - 12:00 pm / 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm). The borrowed clappers must be returned to the Linz Tourist Information by April 10.
The following times apply for the clapper runs through the city of Linz:
Good Friday, April 3 & Holy Saturday, April 4, 2026,
at 6 am, 12 pm, and 6 pm
The meeting point is the New Gate.
Don't forget: On Holy Saturday, the run passes must be brought along. The traditional reception and medal presentation by the VR Bank Rhein-Mosel eG for children and young people will take place after the 12 pm run on Holy Saturday in front of the town hall.
