"Krupp und Sayn"
In der Sayner Hütte 4, 56170 Bendorf-Sayn
Dream Factory / Culture Summer 2026 Sayner Hütte
On March 24, 1865, the Royal Schöffengericht in Sayn executed a contract that set the course: The Essen steel industrialist Alfred Krupp purchased the Sayner Hütte, the Mülhofener Hütte, the Oberhammer as well as iron ore mines near Horhausen in the Westerwald from the Prussian state. In the following years, Krupp invested more money and acquired the machine factory of Baron von Bleul as well as the Bendorfer ironworks with the Four Winds mine (later Werner mine) from the Remy family. The economic network between Krupp, the Middle Rhine, and the Westerwald lasted for decades, even though the blast furnaces were already shut down during the global economic crisis starting in 1926. For the Krupp family, the region was by no means only of economic interest. The Sayner recreation home for Krupp employees and the Sayneck hunting lodge represent a social and private dimension of the relationships.
