From 24.05.2025 until the 25.05.2025
Landesmusikakademie Rheinland-Pfalz: Internationale Meisterschüler
Alte Schlossstraße 2, 56566 Neuwied-Engers
For four days, the internationally renowned musicians Christian Altenburger (violin), Kirill Troussov (violin), Lawrence Power (viola), and Benedict Kloeckner (cello) will teach selected students at the State Music Academy as part of the International Music Festival Koblenz (IMUKO). In several class concerts, the participants – and ultimately the instructors as well – will present the works they have prepared in the garden hall of Schloss Engers. The interested public is invited to attend the lessons in advance.
The lessons in Schloss Engers are open to the public - from May 22 to 25, each day from 9:30 to 13:00 and from 14:30 to 18:00.
The opening of the concerts will feature a lecture by Dr. Harald Eggebrecht, one of Germany's most renowned cultural journalists. The studied scholar of literature, music, and art will talk about the current situation of classical music and the career prospects of the new generation. We would be pleased if this lecture, which addresses existential topics for students, also resonated with our concert audience.

From September 2025, he will hold a professorship at the École Normale de Musique de Paris – Alfred Cortot.
Christian Altenburger is not only a highly sought-after soloist internationally but also a respected and well-known teacher and festival director. Studying with the famous teacher at the Juilliard School in New York, Dorothy Delay, was a significant experience for his own outstanding pedagogical work. Since 2001, he has been a professor at the University of Music in Vienna.
Lawrence Power is one of the most successful violists of our time and performs as a soloist with the most renowned orchestras in the world. He teaches at the Royal College of Music in London and regularly gives masterclasses worldwide, including at the Verbier Festival. Lawrence Power plays an Antonio Brensi from 1610, one of the oldest violas in existence.
Kirill Troussov, endorsed by Sir Yehudi Menuhin from a young age, is today one of the most sought-after violinists of his generation. He regularly gives masterclasses, including at the Mozarteum Salzburg, in Los Angeles, Beijing, and Cremona. Since 2021, Troussov has been the chairman and artistic director of the Hong Kong International Young Musicians Competition as well as the artistic director of the Carl Flesch Competition in Hungary. He plays the Antonio Stradivari from 1702, with which Adolphe Brodsky premiered Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in 1881.
