In Iraq in the 1990s, the state forces the population to celebrate Saddam Hussein's birthday nationwide, despite hardship and shortages. In Lamia's school, it is decided by lot which girl must bake the celebration cake for the local festivities - and the 9-year-old is chosen. A nearly impossible task, as there is a shortage of food across the country, especially eggs, sugar, and flour. If she fails, her family faces consequences. She has only two days to gather the needed ingredients. Together with her classmate Saeed and accompanied by the rooster Hindi, she sets off to the nearest city.
