MinsKi: "Leibniz-Chronik eines verschollenen Bildes"
Heddesdorfer Str. 84, 56564 Neuwied
In the year 1704, Queen Sophie Charlotte of Prussia lives in melancholy, as she misses her former tutor, the philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Leibniz had helped her answer existential questions in her youth, and now she wishes for a painting of him, to at least speak to him in her thoughts. The court painter Delalandre fails at the task, as he believes Leibniz is no friend of art. The young Dutch painter Aaltje van de Meer is eventually entrusted with the task. In an intense struggle for art, philosophy, and the true depiction of humanity, the question of the relationship between art and truth is raised. Director Edgar Reitz addresses the great existential themes in his film and connects them with questions about art and cinema – highly recommended.
