Hazelnut roasting in the Mesolithic

by Dr. Daniela Holst (Institute of Prehistory and Early History at the University of Cologne)

In the Mesolithic period, hazelnuts were one of the most important food sources. At the beginning of our current warm period, veritable "hazelnut industries" emerged, which utilized elaborately constructed roasting facilities to preserve the nuts collected in the autumn for the winter.
A particularly impressive example of this is the site of Duvensee in Schleswig-Holstein.

Cost: 5 euros per person.
