Tourist-Info: Führung Histor. Kirchen- und Religionsgemeinschaften
Pfr.-Werner-Mörchen-Str. 1, 56564 Neuwied
Description of the tour:
Since the town was founded in 1653, many religious communities from all parts of Europe have moved to Neuwied because they were guaranteed the freedom to practise their denomination by the local counts. In addition to the official Reformed community, Mennonites, Lutherans, Catholics, Herrnhuters, Inspired, Jews and many smaller groups settled in Neuwied and brought about a considerable economic upswing in the small residential town, which was actually not very favourably situated due to the frequent flooding of the Rhine. In a tour lasting around 1.5 hours, the remaining churches in the town centre and the synagogue memorial are visited. The theological similarities and contrasts are also discussed.
