You start at the Tourist Information on the Loreley Rock. Come a bit earlier - you will receive a 10% discount on purchases (excluding books and hiking maps) upon presentation of your event ticket! From there, the knowledgeable and experienced winemaker will guide you to the historic wine terrace location "St. Goarshäuser Burg Katz." Upon arriving at the vineyard, you will first enjoy a greeting with a Riesling winemaker sparkling wine from the Loreley Bornich wine cooperative. After that, you will traverse the steep vine terraces to learn about some typical characteristics of this centuries-old cultural landscape. At prominent spots, you will taste 4 typical high-quality wines from this terroir. The hike concludes back at the Tourist Information.
The tour lasts about 3.5 hours. The total length of the route is around 4 km.
Expect steep ascents, unpaved paths, narrow trails, thin walls, and natural rock sections. It literally goes over hill and stone, traversing the old vineyard terraces.
Important notes and requirements: sturdy footwear is absolutely necessary; ankle-high hiking boots with strong treads are recommended, weather-appropriate clothing, sure-footedness, freedom from giddiness, and good physical condition (even when drinking wine). Hiking sticks and binoculars are recommended.
The hike takes place in any weather! Sheltering options are partially available in old vineyard huts. Attention the paths and trails may be slippery. Participation is at your own risk!
