Dementia Networks Rhein-Lahn celebrate 20 years of the Lahnstein-Braubach regional group at the Youth Cultural Center Lahnstein.

As parents age and increasingly rely on support, familiar roles within a family often change as well. This experience is the focus of the play "You Are My Mother" by Joop Admiral, which will be shown on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the Youth Cultural Center Lahnstein. The occasion is the 20th anniversary of the Lahnstein-Braubach regional group of the Dementia Networks Rhein-Lahn.

At the heart of the play is the encounter between a son and his mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's, in a nursing home. The Dutch actor and author Joop Admiral regularly visited his then 80-year-old mother and made these personal experiences the basis for an extraordinary theater evening in 1981. "You Are My Mother" tells of aging and a relationship that gradually changes. It addresses intimacy and care, remembering and forgetting, but also the small peculiarities of old age and the interactions between generations. Between comedic and melancholic moments, the play addresses a serious topic without solely emphasizing its gravity. A unique aspect of the one-man play lies in its staging: actor Achim Conrad embodies both the son and his mother, allowing the different perspectives and the evolving relationship between them to collide directly. The German version is by Monika Thé, directed by Bernd Sass.

With this theater evening, the Lahnstein-Braubach regional group also commemorates its 20th anniversary. For two decades, it has been committed to people with dementia and their relatives as part of the Dementia Networks Rhein-Lahn.

The event will take place on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the Youth Cultural Center Lahnstein, Wilhelmstraße 59. Doors open at 6.00 p.m. with a champagne reception and welcoming speeches, followed by the performance. Admission is free.
