As an instrumentalist with heart and soul, Bach pushed the boundaries of performance practice by fully exploiting the specific possibilities of the cello. These suites, with their improvisational adventures, strict imitative excursions, rhythmic flair, and a virtuosity unmatched for their time, are in every respect on par with Bach’s keyboard works from the same creative period.

In the Bach year (340th birthday and 275th death anniversary), Benedict Kloeckner presents the 6 solo suites for cello, which he has recorded as a complete album for Brillant Classics. Complete performances on a single evening have already taken place at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Munich Residence, and the Berlin Philharmonie, the latter being available as a live recording with millions of views on YouTube.
