As an instrumentalist with body and soul, Bach shattered the boundaries of performance practice by fully exploiting the specific possibilities of the cello. These suites, with their improvisatory adventures, strict imitative excursions, rhythmic flair, and a virtuosity unmatched for the time, are on par with Bach’s piano works from the same creative period in every respect.

In the Bach year (340th birthday and 275th death anniversary), Benedict Kloeckner presents the 6 Solo Suites for cello, which he has recorded as a complete recording for Brillant Classics. Full performances in one evening have already taken place at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Munich Residence, and the Berlin Philharmonie, the latter being available as a live recording with millions of views on YouTube.
