Ausstellung: SONIC CANVAS | Thomas Rabsch x Nikka Wood

Helfensteinstraße 73, 56077 Koblenz

Cross-media art exhibition in Koblenz

When color becomes sound and music finds its own visual language, a space is created where art forms merge.

This is the space opened up by Koblenz's painter Nikka Wood and Cologne's photographer Thomas Rabsch in their joint cross-media art exhibition SONIC CANVAS, which can be seen from November 8 to 29, 2025, in Nikka Wood's studio in Koblenz-Ehrenbreitstein.

The art exhibition brings together two artistic positions that have the same origin in different ways: music. While Nikka Wood has been translating songs and concert experiences into vibrant painting for years with her project I PAINT MUSIC, Thomas Rabsch captures the energy of moments with his camera as one of Germany's most prominent band and concert photographers.

Iconic images of musicians and bands such as Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Jane Birkin, Slash (e.g., Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver), James Hetfield (Metallica), Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins), Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubauten) and many more meet at SONIC CANVAS with pulsating fields of color that reach into space like riffs and rhythms. Together, the works open a dialogue that appeals equally to art lovers and music enthusiasts.

An additional attraction of SONIC CANVAS is that you will hear the accompanying music during your visit to the exhibition. As with Nikka Wood's previous projects, the soundtrack is an integral part of the multisensory overall experience. Thus, the exhibition becomes an emotional experiment where seeing and hearing flow into each other. Goosebumps guaranteed.

We recommend bringing your own headphones and downloading the playlist in advance, as mobile network access in the studio is limited. Please click here for the Spotify playlist.

With the art exhibition SONIC CANVAS, Nikka Wood and Thomas Rabsch bring together two different forms of expression in Koblenz that do not overshadow each other but rather amplify one another. Ehrenbreitstein once again becomes the cultural meeting point of the region – with an exhibition that translates the essence of music into colors and makes the power of photography experienceable from a new perspective.
